TYM ’26 part one is a show of work from studio1.1’s membership. Presenting contemporary art in Shoreditch London E2, close to the City. Abutting the Masjid Centre on Redchurch Street, this speakeasy, on the boundaries of the London art world, is always worth a visit.
TYM ’26 part one, runs from the 8th of January til the first of February 2026 and includes work by the following artists:

David Cockney Tableaux: the compleat wanker’s guide to the M25 (and other highways)

Ongoing work, using video, scenery, scripts and acting to focus critical ire at mass perception. In this (and other videos), David Cockney pours scorn on our semi-mechanised egos and the madness often found in car culture.
Cockney’s mantra ‘the car is not who you are’ will take time to percolate through, given pressures inflicted by advertising – and the general daftness of consumers. The vanity, arrogance and pride expressed with car ownership comes under fire as ‘Dave’ questions if being stuck in traffic on the M25 really is ‘civilisation’.

The experience of driving in an increasingly urbanised environment, causes Dedman to be wryly self-critical about his own metamorphosis, once he dons ‘a tin overcoat’.
The New Yoga

Alan Dedman organises men’s yoga classes in the West Country, (now in their tenth year). The medium – collective body and soul, can be seen as a form of social / spiritual sculpture.
In Dorset yogins formed themselves according to ancient Vedic lore, set against the Jurassic coast (which is itself a sculptural monolith). The title ‘New Yoga’ is in contrast to Rashid Johnson’s ‘New Black Yoga’ across the pond, set on glamorous, Californian beaches; Johnson’s ‘poses’ are less rigorous than the UK equivalent. Dedman’s work takes will-power and prowess to effect. And believe it or not, it isn’t just some flash-in-the-pan posturing for art’s sake!
Pointlessism
is a painstakingly assembled, highly sensuous statement working with the optics of colour. Alan Dedman studies the subject; hereby using it to enliven his studio with the vibrant physicality of chroma.

This painting is approximately 9.5 x 5.5 ft, consisting of twenty eight coloured squares in acrylic paint and emulsion on canvas. The title, the converse of ‘Pointillism’, refers to mechanical representation of colour and the ‘useless’ nature of artistic production. It’s a macro look at colour, making us receive the subject as if we were insects with compound eyes. Price £28,000.00.

studio1.1 gallery is at 57a, Redchurch Street, Shoreditch, London E2. Opening hours 12 – 5pm, Thursday through to Sunday.
